The Jack-in-the-Pulpit is a familiar spring wildflower in most of eastern North America. The bract of this plant is enlarged into the spathe, which encloses and hides the flowers. The flowers are borne on the lower part of the spadix, with a wide ring of female flowers below a ring of male flowers.
